Categories Netsuke are Japanese ornamental counterweights strung like beads from a cord used to hold a pounch or box in place dangling from a sash. Presented here are replicas of Netsuke in the form of Noh play masks - a form of drama created in the 14th century characterized by its sacred approach to drama and its resemblance to a religious ceremony while at the same time retaining its identity as theater. The masks show fundamental emotional states, states of mind and character types - the distillation of the soul of the character here in minature as Netsuke.
