Terselv Style Pendant - 5164B
Among the finest jewelry of the Viking age are pendants and brooches characterized by sophisticated filigree and granulation techniques emulating Carolingian and Ottoman work known as Terslev style. Named after the ornament featured on silver brooches discovered in a hoard from Terslev, Zealand, Denmark, their patterning usually consists of three or four symmetrically placed volutes bound by a closed ring. This patterning is highly suggestive of patterns of tulips found in today’s Scandinavian and Baltic folk art. Excellent examples of this technique are found around the Baltic regions all the way to the British Isles. This large pendant replicates the Terslev style in all its intricate richness and would make an elegant centerpiece for a choker or long swag necklace.
