Needle cases were an essential part of any Norse housewife’s chatelaine. Not only did it keep her needles safe and handy, but indicated that she was wealthy enough to afford good iron needles. Needle cases came in many styles from practical and simple to highly ornate.
This elegant replica of a Viking Age needle case is made in the Borre Style (circa 1000 AD) with interlocking gripping beasts in ring-chain motif supporters. It is designed to be hung from a brooch or suspended from a chatelaine. Rings below the case allow it to serve as hangers for bells, charms and small tools. It is modeled after an original artifact found in the Viking settlement of Novgorod and now in a private collection. Sterling Silver (Dimensions: 50.8 mm W x 55.56 mm H / 4.7625 mm opening - 2 in W x 2.2 in H / 0.1875 in opening)
